The historic sites of Rampart House and LaPierre House lie within the Traditional Territory of the Vuntut Gwitch’in First Nation. They are two of the earliest trading posts in what would become the Yukon Territory where two cultures interacted. The two sites were places where Gwitchin families interacted with fur traders, explorers, missionaries and government officials who brought many changes to the Gwitchin culture.
In accordance with Chapter 13, Schedule B of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Final Agreement, Rampart House and LaPierre House Historic Sites are co-owned and co-managed by the Vuntut Gwitchin and Yukon governments and the Rampart House and LaPierre House Management Plan was completed in 1999.
Yukon and Vuntut Gwitchin governments are now in the process of undertaking a review of the 1999 Plan. The Management Plan update is in the early stages, the planning process started in September 2019 and will continue to February 2021.
